In 2002, the District signed an agreement with Manitoba Conservation to participate in a Drainage License Pilot Project. The project is ongoing.
Landowners and municipalities planning drainage works must obtain a permit to construct the drainage. A
Drainage License Application must be submitted to the District with a cheque made out to the Minister of Finance. The District will then investigate the drainage project with local participation.
The District must then forward the application, cheque and recommendations to Manitoba Water Stewardship for approval. This process can take several weeks to months and should be started well in advance of the proposed drainage works.
